Court records

A detention listing and a court case answer different questions. Use a booking page to identify the listed date and description, then use the court record to check filings, hearings, and any recorded outcome.

York County Public Index ↗

The Clerk’s official page links to the 16th Circuit Court Public Index. Follow that link for York County case searches. Read the index disclaimer, search with the court case number if available, and compare the court and filing information before treating a name match as the right case. A booking number is a different identifier.

Use this when: Start here when you want to locate a court case associated with a booking or examine its available public entries.

General Sessions records ↗

This county directory provides contact details for the Clerk’s General Sessions division. Have the court case number and the specific document or entry you are asking about ready. This is the criminal division of Circuit Court; a case in Municipal or Magistrate Court may require that court’s clerk instead.

Use this when: Use it when a General Sessions record needs clarification, a public document is unavailable online, or you need to ask how to obtain a copy.

York County court directory ↗

The county explains the roles of Bond Court, Magistrate Court, Circuit and Family Court, Probate Court, and related offices. General Sessions handles criminal matters in Circuit Court, while Common Pleas handles civil matters. Magistrates also hear criminal and traffic matters. Match the court printed on your paperwork before contacting an office.

Use this when: Use this overview when you know the type of problem but are unsure which court or division to contact.

Public Index search help ↗

This official PDF shows how to select a county, read the access disclaimer, choose search criteria, and open a case number for more detail. If a narrow search finds nothing, review your filters. An empty search result does not establish that a person has no court case.

Use this when: Use it when you need help with the search screen or locating the details behind a result.

Detention & visitation

Check custody and facility requirements with the detention center before making travel, payment, or communication arrangements. A retained booking page is historical information and does not confirm that someone is still there.

Official inmate listing ↗

This is the public listing used as the source for booking records on this site. Compare the booking number and check the current source rather than relying on a search-engine preview or an older shared post. A missing listing alone does not tell you whether a release, transfer, or another record change occurred.

Use this when: Use it to check whether a booking is currently displayed by the official source.

Detention Center contacts ↗

The Sheriff’s directory explains which contact options handle booking and releases, visitation, telephone services, inmate records, mail, and bond hearings. Choose the service relevant to your question and have the person’s listed name and booking number ready. The website archive cannot confirm release processing.

Use this when: Use it for a current facility question or when you need to reach the correct detention service.

Visitation & communication ↗

The Sheriff’s page covers visitor approval, identification, assigned visit times, video visits, outgoing calls, and mail. It says visitation requests start with the detained person and visitors must be approved. Ordinary letters and money orders have different mailing instructions. Read the current instructions before sending anything or traveling to the facility.

Use this when: Use it before arranging a visit, setting up communication, or addressing mail.

Bond hearing contacts ↗

This official page lists the detention center’s bond-hearing schedule and the contacts for bond and court questions. The posted schedule can change. Use the appropriate court contact or the person’s attorney to confirm a specific appearance; a booking date cannot establish a trial date.

Use this when: Use it for bond-hearing information or to find where to ask about court scheduling.

Legal help

Criminal defense and civil legal assistance serve different needs. Ask the relevant office about eligibility and the kind of matter it accepts; a directory link does not guarantee that an application will be accepted.

16th Circuit Public Defender ↗

The office provides criminal representation for qualifying people charged in York and Union Counties. The county directs applicants to the Clerk of Court or the Municipal or Magistrate Court with jurisdiction. Contact the office or the relevant court about screening and current application requirements. This is the place to ask about appointed criminal defense.

Use this when: Use it if you face a criminal charge and cannot afford an attorney, or need information about public-defender eligibility.

South Carolina Legal Services ↗

South Carolina Legal Services offers civil legal assistance to eligible South Carolinians based on finances and the type of issue. Its services page explains accepted areas and application routes. It does not handle criminal cases, so it is a separate resource from the Public Defender for problems such as housing or other eligible civil matters.

Use this when: Use it for a civil legal problem and to check whether it falls within the organization’s services.

Victim assistance

People affected by a reported crime may need support and information throughout a case. Contact a victim-services office directly rather than posting personal circumstances in a public booking discussion.

Victim Assistance Unit ↗

The unit provides victim advocacy and assistance connected with the criminal-justice process. Its official page gives business-hours and after-hours contact routes. Use those routes to ask about support and the advocate appropriate to the case. A booking page cannot identify someone’s assigned advocate or confirm what services they will receive.

Use this when: Use it when you need victim support, information about available assistance, or help finding the right advocate.
