About this site

The purpose, sources, editorial standards, and limitations of Locked Up York County’s public booking archive and original guides.

A record with context

Locked Up York County brings together captured York County, South Carolina booking records, practical guides to official information, and aggregate analysis of the site archive. Its purpose is to make a public listing easier to read while keeping the difference between an allegation and a finding clear.

This is an independent informational website, not the York County Detention Center, a law-enforcement agency, or a court. An official source remains the place to confirm a current record. Nothing here establishes guilt or supplies an individual legal or custody determination.

Booking sources

The booking archive uses the York County Detention Center’s public inmate listing. A record may contain a booking number, listed booking date, photo, bond, charge descriptions, and the agencies shown on those descriptions. Details are attributed to that source rather than treated as independently established facts.

The source-check time on a page tells you when the listing was checked. It is not the date of an arrest, court judgment, or release. The official source can change after that check; missing information is described as unavailable rather than filled in by inference.

Updates & archive history

A successful complete roster check refreshes the public snapshot. If the source scan fails, the preceding snapshot remains available. Records no longer found in a complete check remain in this searchable archive with a listing-status notice. Source absence can reflect release, transfer, correction, or another source change; it does not establish a custody outcome.

An empty or missing charge list in a later check does not automatically erase previously accepted descriptions. Retained descriptions are labeled with their observation information where available. A source revision that replaces or removes previously accepted descriptions is held for review. Accepted corrections can change an archived record and the current dashboard’s historical totals.

Bookings earlier than the site's collection period can be present because they were still on the source roster when collection began. The archive does not claim to contain every booking in York County. Matching names alone do not establish that different records belong to the same person.

Guides & reports

The record guides explain practical questions in original language, with links to applicable official court, county, and state sources. They distinguish a public record’s wording from legal conclusions. The source-check date identifies when the linked guidance was checked; it does not promise that every agency page remains unchanged.

The statistics count captured booking events and accepted listed rows. They do not count unique people or measure crime rates, convictions, complete arrest totals, or department performance. Categories can overlap, and an agency label on a charge row does not establish which agency made an arrest. Missing charge information can understate filtered totals.

Monthly reports preserve aggregate figures from an identified snapshot, state the period and capture date, and explain the limits of those figures. A saved report can differ from the dashboard after later additions or corrections. Reports use aggregate information rather than lists of individual names.

Standards & corrections

  • Charges remain allegations; a booking is not a conviction.
  • Source wording, observations, and explanatory commentary are clearly distinguished.
  • Unknown case outcomes, identities, and custody facts are not inferred.
  • Official links and stated limitations accompany practical guides and data reports.
  • Correction requests are checked against booking-specific supporting information.

Use Corrections & contact for a problem in a website record, a broken resource link, or an error in a guide. Correcting this archive does not change the responsible agency's record.
